Biography

Greg Black started Lynn’s Nursery in 1988.  Plants had always been a hobby for him.  Previously as a builder, whenever he had time off, Greg rooted cuttings and enjoyed playing with plants.  His wife, Lynn, working then as a professional headhunter and mother to two young children, soon shifted her career and devoted herself to helping manage the nursery business her husband had started.

“We started spending all our money on plants and took our hobby to a professional level. When your hobby is your profession, you never have a bad day at work.”  ~ Greg

Their son, Kris, has jumped into the family business. Kris Black has been in his family’s business part time since 2004 and then onto full time in 2008 after graduating with a degree in horticulture.  Both he and his sister, Katie, have been cultivated for this.  Greg says, “When the kids got into trouble, they were given a shovel, told to pull weeds and pot plants.”  When they were 10 and 12 years old, they helped unload trailers of plants and materials and did a lot of work on the weekends.  Katie, graduating in 2014, is looking for land for a vineyard for the future.
